365 Things To Do In Portland, Oregon

Beer, Fashion, and Bowling.. Sounds like fun to me!

Big Chill

Widmer’s third annual combination of fashion and…bowling?

On Friday, the third annual Widmer Big Chill event will take place at Grand Central bowling alley. And nothing says fashion like bowling shoes. Actually, to be fair, this is a pretty classy kind of joint and the last time I was there I saw a Bell Biv Devoe video on their huge screens, which is a surefire way to put you in my “like” column. The whole event is supposed to be about high fashion anyway, and it’s also about kicking off the snow season, having a few beers, and taking in the sights. Some of things you can wander around and behold (for free!) are:

• Music from 94.7 FM and Grand Central’s DJ “X” as well as fashion show on the bowling lanes featuring local looks from Atmosphere, Auviq, Looptworks, PCB (Phlox Clothing Boutique) and the best in winter gear from U.S. Outdoor Store.

• New this year: a silent auction benefiting PDX POP NOW!. Local artists have taken skis, snowboards, and toboggans and created winter-themed works of art. Guests can vote on their favorite and the top artist will win the opportunity to create a custom-designed snowboard complete with lift passes to Mt Hood Meadows or a weekend getaway to Sunriver Resort.

• Snow junkies can also get their pictures taken at the Big Chill photo booth, hosted by Paparrazzi Tonight, or warm up with a sample of cold Brrr, the winter seasonal from Widmer Brothers Brewing.

If you’re a boarder, like beer, bowling, or art, this should be on your Friday fun list.

Fenouil in the Pearl District is now offering small plates & themed nights...

Blake Ellis - Thursday, November 11, 2010

Good deal alert!  One of the Pearl DIstrict's nicest restaurant is working hard to expand its clientele.  Obviously the past couple years have been hard on everyone's pocketbooks, so the unveiling of a small plates menu at Fenouil is much welcomed!  Fenouil is a fantastic french eatery that sits right on Jamison Square in the Pearl District in Portland, Oregon.  It has a beautiful airy interior, floor to ceiling windows, and cozy fireplaces..

Here are the deals:  Monday and Wednesday, with a minimum $20 purchase, you can enjoy half off a bottle of wine... Tuesday and Thursday you can enjoy reduced prices on pours of local beer and wine. For those of you that are in the food industry, you'll enjoy 30% off your bill!  Quite a deal!

The bar area also has a new small plates menu that will allow you to get a flavor for the full menu at a much lower price.  Try out rabbit sausage tortellini or lamb tartare.. mmmm....  Pricing ranges from $4 for some tasty fries to $17 for oysters with caviar.  Head out and try this Pearl District favorite on your next outing!

Winemakers are "Bringing the Valley to Portland" this evening...

Blake Ellis - Monday, August 30, 2010

If you've spent any time in the Portland area, you know that we love our wines here.  AND, just a short drive away we are lucky enough to have lots of wineries where we can pursue our wine educations... Sometimes, though, it's tough to get away from our schedules to taste a pinot or sip a chardonnay.  Thankfully, tonight in the Pearl District the Valley is coming to us!

This evening from 5-8pm in the Gerding Theater (Pearl District), several Estate wineries and restaurants from the Yamhill / Carlton area will treat Portlanders will their finest wines and foods.  For $25 (in advance, or $35 at the door), you can eat and drink to your heart's content.

The Gerding Theater is located in Portland's Pearl District at 128 NW 11th Ave
phone 503.864.2991

Take a trip to a Parisian cafe at St Honore Boulangerie!!!

Blake Ellis - Friday, August 27, 2010

Have you ever walked down the street and you get a sniff of butter so strong you fell like you could taste it?  Well chances are if you're running around NW Portland or Lake Oswego and that happens to you, the culprit is St. Honore Boulangerie.  It's a local french bakery and cafe that produces some of the tastiest French treats in town.

From traditional breads and desserts to cafe / bistro food, St. Honore will satisfy your need for a trip to Paris, even if it's just during your lunch break!   On the weekends, both locations are really really busy, but any wait you experience will be well worth it.  The pastries are sweet and crusty.  The sandwiches are just like the baguettes you eat while strolling through Paris.  Strong coffee, nice staff... What more could you ask for?  If you haven't been, it's time to try it out!  Try the strawberry mille feuilles (shown above).. My favorite!!

Spend a day on the farm. Just minutes from downtown!

Blake Ellis - Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Sometimes it's nice to take a break from life in the city and its suburbs and head out to the country.  We are really spoiled in Portland, because just ten minutes away, we have Sauvie Island.  If you've never been out to the island, you MUST go.  It's a breath of fresh country air right in town!

Sauvie Island Farms is a great excursion, too.  It's a big U-Pick farm where you can harvest your own fruits and vegetables straight from the fields.  From pears to cherries to zucchini, you'll find it here!

The farm is open Monday thru Saturday from 8am - 7pm  To check out which crops are ready for harvest, visit the farm's website at www.sauvieislandfarms.com
