Winemakers are "Bringing the Valley to Portland" this evening...

Blake Ellis - Monday, August 30, 2010

If you've spent any time in the Portland area, you know that we love our wines here.  AND, just a short drive away we are lucky enough to have lots of wineries where we can pursue our wine educations... Sometimes, though, it's tough to get away from our schedules to taste a pinot or sip a chardonnay.  Thankfully, tonight in the Pearl District the Valley is coming to us!

This evening from 5-8pm in the Gerding Theater (Pearl District), several Estate wineries and restaurants from the Yamhill / Carlton area will treat Portlanders will their finest wines and foods.  For $25 (in advance, or $35 at the door), you can eat and drink to your heart's content.

The Gerding Theater is located in Portland's Pearl District at 128 NW 11th Ave

Take a trip to a Parisian cafe at St Honore Boulangerie!!!

Blake Ellis - Friday, August 27, 2010

Have you ever walked down the street and you get a sniff of butter so strong you fell like you could taste it?  Well chances are if you're running around NW Portland or Lake Oswego and that happens to you, the culprit is St. Honore Boulangerie.  It's a local french bakery and cafe that produces some of the tastiest French treats in town.

From traditional breads and desserts to cafe / bistro food, St. Honore will satisfy your need for a trip to Paris, even if it's just during your lunch break!   On the weekends, both locations are really really busy, but any wait you experience will be well worth it.  The pastries are sweet and crusty.  The sandwiches are just like the baguettes you eat while strolling through Paris.  Strong coffee, nice staff... What more could you ask for?  If you haven't been, it's time to try it out!  Try the strawberry mille feuilles (shown above).. My favorite!!

Spend a day on the farm. Just minutes from downtown!

Blake Ellis - Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Sometimes it's nice to take a break from life in the city and its suburbs and head out to the country.  We are really spoiled in Portland, because just ten minutes away, we have Sauvie Island.  If you've never been out to the island, you MUST go.  It's a breath of fresh country air right in town!

Sauvie Island Farms is a great excursion, too.  It's a big U-Pick farm where you can harvest your own fruits and vegetables straight from the fields.  From pears to cherries to zucchini, you'll find it here!

The farm is open Monday thru Saturday from 8am - 7pm  To check out which crops are ready for harvest, visit the farm's website at www.sauvieislandfarms.com
